Please use OpenStreetmap and Openlayers – its so much more usable than the google stuff …
And it’s possible to add this information in the map itself.
Set a point, set property “deaddrop=yes”, in fact all we need is to render this information.

I think your project is really exciting and I like it but you should enjoy the drops dead with caution. It will not take long to be distributed until the first viruses and worms.

How long will it take for people to finally stop using damn Windows? Noone has ever seen a virus program running on Linux.
Actually, there are viruses for Linux. They are just not that widespread yet.
Its because those viruses are only theoretical lab-based proof of concepts. Even the author’s of the virus state with a properly maintained security policies (ie well configured pam, groups, ipchains, and selinux settings) its impossible to run a virus under Linux. Not something that windows can do (even with UAC and tighten secpol settings).

I will get hold of some drives & some Epoxy putty then & look around Torbay in Devon, UK for some placement spots. Not sure where to find Quick Set Cement though so Epoxy putty might be the way to go.

I personally would love to see some in historic towns. No, not in the the castle walls (that would be cool, but potentially destroying the history), but in places near the monuments/buildings, e.g. benches, pubs, the like.
Also, perhaps non-cement Dead Drops? As in, a computer humming away in the Barbican or something, or some guy in Carphone Warehouse: “You got the drop?” “Yup.”

I really like this project. It´s absolutely inspiring, good example for useful art in public space.
Next week i will install one in Antalya | Turkey durin my holidays. Cause i couldnt find any contemporary art institutions there – “my dead drop” can be considered as a very small museum. Therefore i invite you all, to send me a file to put on this usb stick. Can be conceptual, visual, audio, whatever you prefer. We got 2 GB to fill. In case, somewhere on my website is a contact button to use.

We tried to put Pictures up for Austin But couldn’t get them in. something happend with the server or something.
2nd DD made in Kansas. We’ve been using “PC-Crete” in place of the quick setting concrete, it is a hand-moldable putty epoxy that resembles concrete when set (about 3 minutes work time, 60 minutes cure). http://www.pcepoxy.com/our-products/putty-epoxies/pc-crete.php I bought a stick at the local hardware store for around $5 and so far it’s made things quick and easy. Along with the PC-Crete I would suggest bringing some “wet-naps” of some sort for cleaning hands afterward or latex gloves.

Today i install my first dead drop in antalya | turkey … there is a military base not far and a secret service building … but i decided to install the DD next to them, is not making the Idea and conceptual beauty better. It only makes the usage of the DD more dangerous for harmless filesharers.
Later this evening i upload the photos, maybe tomorrow morning. After Installing the DD i will put some more stuff on it. But i will install it “naked”, only with the readme and the manifesto on it.

Mighty Putty FTW!!! It’s malleable, requires no putty knife or tools, fast setting, strong as anything, and best of all, it fits in you pocket so you don’t have to explain to a cop why you are carrying around a tub of cement. I switched to MP in favor of cement on SIU DD #3 , just in time as that was the one where the cops stopped me.
Is possible to change information about my deadrop (cerveny kostel – red castle)? I used a diacritics and it makes mishmash. and also GPS coordinates are inaccurate… sorry about that

Dead drop in Jostova, Brno Czech rep., is out of order. It was destroyed.
Let´s give a huge round of applause to the petty Czech people. It´s enough to read the comments under the iDnes article. It makes me ashamed to be Czech :-(
it wasn’t deastroyed. It was removed, beacause of problems with Evangeic church. But it was my fault, i put it in the ventailation hole.

But its not there!! I checked it in the morning. Theres just a hole in the white cement, filled up with some grey cement…

The Drop in Erfurt “1st drop in europe” is alive (28.1.2011).
It’s formatted as FAT. So you could use it on mac without any additional tools.
I’ve converted “pirnadrop” to FAT.
Look at new pictures there.
Couldn’t find the one on the University of Waterloo’s Math building… I checked on every pillar, making myself look as goofy as possible while I did.
Sorry, I submitted the drop “Rhydrop” in Basel two times, because the first one showed up incorrectly on the map. Whoever is in charge of this site, please just delete the first one. (PS: It would be great if a submitter could review his entries before he sends it.)
