The site was chosen for politically resonant reasons. Oddy Locks are an anachronism. A single weakly throbbing vein in an armful of arteries, where once it would have been the entry-way for almost all major trade into Leeds not they're used by an aging bourgeois who can afford the rental rates. The gates themselves aren't much to look at, but the mural painted and decayed behind it is - 'Fragments from the Post Industrial State' created by Graeme Willson, completed in the 80's. It incorporates images of war with facelessness and is clearly showing its age with graffiti and a faded weathered look to it. My placement I felt should grow off of this intriguing mural so the USB has been inserted into the right most panel as per the picture. The contents, without spoiling too much, are based around boredom, our contemporaneous boredom -- although i've kept it quite light! If you could credit this just to Natalie A that would be cool! |
