I'm a mountain biker who loves exploring the natural world, and discovering the history of a place. I've stored PDF's of a couple of old documents about the history of this area, plus a recent article that I really like.
This area is public access land surrounding a huge lake that provides water for our city. There are some amazing views if you have time to look around, but you can only explore this area on foot or by mountain bike. No vehicles are allowed.
The easiest way to this deaddrop is via Winn Road, Cashmere near Brody Court. Park on the roadside here: https://goo.gl/maps/UBvU7PBwEUv, come up the driveway and enter the lakeside land via the fence near the gate. Follow the firetrail to the north (away from Winn Road) for about 100 metres and you'll find the dreaddrop in a log about 10 metres east from the side of the trail.
It's 30 cm (1 foot) off the ground, so you can use a laptop, or sit on the log, pull out an OTG cable and use your mobile phone.
In an experiment a decade ago I left a disposable camera in a tree stump and asked people to take photos of themselves. I wrote a story about it here: http://nbe.me/22 I'd like to do the same again with this deaddrop, so please leave a photo.
I intend to set up more drops in similar locations within about 10km of this one, but would like to see how this one goes first. |
