About
In 2012, the New York City Police Department and Microsoft partnered to create a massive surveillance system. The system is called the Domain Awareness System. The system allows the department to access around 3,000 CCTV cameras around the city and link the feeds with software to cross-check criminal and terrorist databases, take radiation levels, scan license plates, and more—24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The DAS system is headquartered in a lower Manhattan office tower in a command-and-control center staffed around the clock by both New York police and "private stakeholders", such as the Federal Reserve, the Bank of New York, Goldman Sachs, Pfizer, and CitiGroup. According to official city documents, "As with all NYPD operations, no person will be targeted or monitored by the Domain Awareness System solely because of actual or perceived race, color, religion or creed, age, national origin, alienage, citizenship status, gender (including gender identity), sexual orientation, disability, marital status, partnership status, military status, or political affiliation or beliefs." However, no one is monitoring the system that monitors us. That is, until now. WE ARE SURVANT! Join the inverse surveillance movement! Join SURVANT! We demand the abolition of this unconstitutional, Orwellian program! We demand our city government, police force, and the corporations that are allowed to spy on us respect citizen privacy! We demand a new system of crime watching and deterrence! We demand for the lawful existence of a hierarchical sousveillance system to ensure citizens' rights are always maintained and never violated by the watching oppressors! Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? WE DO! Participation is simple. Photograph, film, record, or write a description of the Lincoln Place and Franklin Avenue NYPD camera's behavior. Make sure to note anything that strikes you as being unusual or provocative about the camera's demeanor. Then, place your file on the SURVANT countersurveillance log (usb drop). The file name should be the EXACT date and time of the entry. Remember, the more citizens participate, the more panoptic the countersurveillance log will be. The coordinates and address above are that of the NYPD surveillance camera, the drop is located at approximately 534 Lincoln Place on the north side of the street, on the cement wall that overlooks the subway tracks. An extension cord is necessary.
